Restaurant screens and digital menu boards

Make menus and specials easy to read, or choose a screen for the dining area and private events. Digital menu boards need a clear content-update plan as well as the right display. Compare brightness, operating hours and portrait or landscape use against the position and opening hours of your restaurant.

Fit the screen around service. Check sightlines, ambient light and access for updates. Confirm the environment is suitable, especially near heat, steam or food preparation.

Private dining and events

A room used for business lunches or private events may also need presentation connections. Check screen position, available wall space and laptop compatibility.

Choosing screens for your restaurant

Which LED screen should I choose for a restaurant?

First distinguish an LED-backlit LCD screen from a direct-view LED display, where LEDs form the picture itself. A commercial LCD is a starting point for a menu board or dining-area screen. For a large LED wall, compare pixel pitch with viewing distance as well as the overall dimensions. The content, position and opening hours should lead the choice. Compare video walls and LED displays.

How do I update a digital menu board?

Depending on the model, menus can come from a built-in player, an external device or compatible signage software. Decide whether staff will update one screen locally or schedule changes across several screens. Check supported file formats, network requirements and any software licences; a screen purchase does not automatically include menu design or a content service.

Can I use a digital menu board in portrait?

Choose a display rated for portrait use and a playback source that can output the menu in that orientation. Portrait mounting support does not by itself confirm that the built-in player supports portrait playback. An external player may provide the required output when the exact display and player specifications support it.

Does a restaurant screen need a 24/7 operating rating?

Not necessarily. Match the published operating rating to the time the screen will actually be on, including preparation and cleaning outside service hours. A 24/7 model is relevant for continuous use; a shorter rated schedule may meet a restaurant that switches its screens off overnight.
